Common Qs & As
I'm amenorrheic (no period) — is this test for me?
Great question! No, we recommend you start with our Female Hormone Blood Test first. This will help you or us (your practitioner) know how to support you to bring your period on, without wasting time or money on this test (requires 11 samples be taken over time.
If you have an irregular period or no period, we can use one simple blood draw as a snapshot to help us understand perhaps why your period is irregular and where in that moment your body was in a potential cycle. This allows us to give you the best guidance for whatever your particular goals are (usually getting it back).
Then, once you have your period again, if it's necessary, you could test again with this cycling saliva test to further optimize your cycle (say you have frustrating symptoms, or fertility goals).
I'm in perimenopause — is this for me?
Great question! It depends. If your cycle is regular enough (consistently every 28-39 days, even if very different in length, bleeding, symptoms), then we recommend you start with this test.
If your period is spaced out and varies quite a bit, consider our Female Hormone Blood Test first. This will help you or us (your practitioner) know how to support you to bring your period on (if that's your goal), without wasting time or money on this test (requires 11 samples be taken over time).
This Cycling test lets us really see the ebb and flow of your hormones across the entire cycle. So, we only recommend it when we know there will be enough information (from your period) to work with. It requires a bit of coordination (must be home to freeze samples), it's a little more money, but the 11 data points across estrogen and progesterone are gold, as well a the 7 FSH & LH data points (and testosterone and DHEA averages)
I'm on HRT, is this test for me?
Nope! Head here.
When do I need to be home to complete this test?
Open this requisition form and follow along with us.
Go to the second page — see how there's an 'average cycle' and a 'prolonged cycle' choice? Depending on your cycle, you'll follow the smaller boxes under the appropriate cycle length that you choose.
Say you choose 'average cycle'. See where there's the option to check Day 1, 2, or 3 as your first sample? You'd need to be home for one of those three days to put your saliva sample into the freezer after collection.
Now, lets move on to the Day 4, 5, 6 option — if you choose day 3 last time, ideally you wouldn't choose day 4 for this option...we're trying to space them out to get a good sense of the rises and falls of your hormones.
So, as you can see, you sort of need to be home every 2-3 days, depending on which collection phase you're in. Questions? Hit the chat button on the bottom right of your screen.

Why this Matters
You're only as healthy as the tools in your tool belt — this includes knowledge
Our mission at Sunnyside well is to make functional health affordable and accessible. We do this by making as much self-serve as possible, especially where there is no harm to the client. Our comprehensive blood test has more markers that matter than most doctors will order for you. And, it comes with a guide to help you understand it and take control of your health.
There are things you can learn and implement on your own time to feel better
You shouldn't always have to schedule an appointment, take off from work, or be available during working hours to work on improving your health. Our guide allows you to work on your health when you have time. It's great for busy moms, night shift workers, anyone really.
Test don't guess — rely on the data instead of buying random supplements and products
If you're the person who spends $50-100/month (or more) on random health foods and supplements not knowing if they actually make a difference or if they're truly what your body needs, this test is a great place to invest in your health — so you know what your body does need.
Hormones also impact
your energy, mood, libido
skin, sleep, immune system
bone density, blood pressure, digestion
More common Qs & As
Do I need to fast for this test?
Nope!
Can I drink water before the test?
Yes. Here's more information:
60 minutes before each collection: Avoid smoking, brushing or flossing your teeth, using mouthwash, and eating or drinking anything except water.
3-5 minutes before each collection: Rinse mouth thoroughly with cold water for approximately 30 seconds. Wash hands prior to handling vials.
Collect saliva directly into the vial until at least half full (excluding bubbles). To reduce the amount of bubbles, cap vial and place in the freezer for 2-3 minutes. Remove vial from freezer and lightly tap vial on a hard surface. This should help to settle the bubbles and enable further collection.
I struggle to produce saliva on demand...help!
No worries, your test instructions has recommendations. Some of them include:
Chewing dental grade paraffin wax; smelling a lemon wedge, vinegar, or pickle juice; or smelling your favorite food item to promote salivary flow. Often, just thinking about your favorite food and how it smells can help!
Can I share the guide?
You are welcome to share the guide that comes with your test with immediate friends and family. Our goal is to help people be healthy, and to be a resource. We hope when you share this guide people in your life will learn about us and remember us if they ever need health guidance beyond our self-serve products. The guide is also extremely informative and often helps people see what their gyno or fertility clinic is skipping — the basics matter!

Want to test your adrenals (cortisol) too? Check out our DUTCH Complete. Sex hormone-wise the DUTCH Complete does not include FSH or LH, but does include hormone metabolism and detoxification pathways.
If you're okay leaving FSH and LH out but want to see your sex hormones across the month and not on just one day (like in the DUTCH Complete), consider the DUTCH Cycle Mapping Plus test.
If you travel frequently the Cycling Female Hormone Test and the DUTCH Cycle Mapping Test can be hard to complete, but either is worth the data. If you cannot be home ~11 days spread out evenly across your cycle to freeze your samples, consider the DUTCH Complete (done on one day) instead or a female hormone blood test.
On HRT? See our testosterone and progesterone specific panels to check on your HRT levels.
The Interpretation option is completely digital via email only.
